Music and art go hand in hand. So why not combine a piano recital with an art exhibit? That’s exactly what Happy Canvas and music teacher, Alan Okuye’s decided to do. This past summer, we arranged for the art students to enjoy a piano recital, then share their artwork with the families of music. It was a hit!
Our musicians and artists were so proud to share their work with their parents and the local community, so obviously we decided to do it again. This time, Halloween themed. I brainstormed with my students about what they wanted to paint and they decided to paint ‘what they were most afraid of.’ Great idea! But was it??
The students began to diligently paint their creepy clowns, porcelain dolls, and Bloody Marys back in August. We are now in October and they still aren’t finished! Why not? You may think the subject was too difficult, or perhaps these young artists were not determined… but this was not the case.
Would you believe that their paintings were looking so real that the students couldn’t look at them any longer without getting nightmares!? So now what? Our exhibit is in 2 weeks and most of the students have decided to paint silhouettes of their fears… Haha!
Stay posted to see their finished work; Night Marchers, Kidnappers, Jack-o-lanterns, and Annabell are just a few of the completed works.
